Cavern Theatre
REHABILITATION PROJECT
The Historic Cavern Theatre Rehabilitation Project is a community effort to rehabilitate one of Carlsbad’s most beloved downtown buildings. The City of Carlsbad and numerous volunteers are working closely together on this remarkable project and it is one of Carlsbad MainStreet’s targeted projects to promote economic development in the downtown area.
OUR VISION
“The Cavern Theatre will serve as a multi-service community-oriented performing arts center with state-of-the-art sound and technical capabilities to enhance the quality of life and provide economic revitalization of the downtown area in a mid-size venue.”
CURRENT STATUS
The theatre is currently in Phase 4A and will complete the renovations related to maintaining the historical features. Including; finishes for the auditorium, cry rooms, back stage, and projection booth, renovation of walls, and stage build out. Phase 4B will complete the rehabilitation of the concession stand including plumbing and electrical. This phase will include rehab of the ceiling area, install of the new acoustic clouds, install new house lights, fire sprinkler heads and lines, and the audio video projection system and screen, sound system and control panel, stage curtains and rigging, and seating.
Mural Projects
Together with, Carlsbad MainStreet, Keep Carlsbad Beautiful and the City of Carlsbad's Fine art Acquisition & Vetting Committee, a downtown mural project is underway, including the painting of electrical boxes. This project is not only beautifying the district, but is also stimulating the local artist community by way of employing Carlsbad's very own talent.
Benches & Trashcans
In collaboration with Carlsbad MainStreet, POP is consistently working to improve the downtown experience through beautification, and practical installations like these. Thanks to Keep Carlsbad Beautiful, NWP and XTO, 18 brand new custom benches and 25 beautiful trash cans have been installed throughout downtown!
